Do you ever feel like you are drowning in debt? Like you can never get ahead and that you have this big pile of debt hanging over your head? I FEEL YOU. My husband and I have a ton of student loan debt and a few credit cards looming over us constantly! I finally came to a point where I knew I needed to take action to start paying off our debt.
I am working very hard to put any extra money I can toward our debts to try and get them out from under us! Dave Ramsey has been an essential factor in the decision making process for how to go about paying off our debt. One of the tips he gives is to go through your house and find things that you no longer need, want, or use, and sell them!
I have come across three great apps that you can use to sell your stuff online. Then, any money you make can go towards your debt! Sometimes it can be hard to find “extra” money from your paychecks alone, so selling unused or unwanted stuff online is an excellent source of “extra” money!
1. Mercari
Mercari is one of my top favorite selling apps! It is the easiest to use out of the three I will be sharing with you! You can put just about anything on Mercari (clothes, shoes, household, video games, etc.). When listing an item, Mercari will fill in some of the information for you based on the pictures and title that you give the item. Once you sell an item, they will send you a pre-paid shipping label, you ship the item, and once the buyer receives their item, the buyer rates you and then BAM! You’ve made some cash. Then you have the option to transfer the money through direct deposit, or now they have even added a cool feature where you can get the money instantly (instant pay) in your account! Check out their website here!
2. Poshmark
Poshmark is next in line to my favorite selling app. It is a little more challenging to use then Mercari and has more restrictions on what you can list. Their main categories are clothing, shoes, & make-up. But- they did just add a home category, which is great! It allows you to list a lot more items on their app! With Posh, you have to follow people and share your items for the people that follow you to see. It is a little more time consuming, but you can make good money if you put the time and effort into it! You can check out their website here!
3. Ebay
Oh, eBay. I’m sure most of you have heard of eBay. Out of the three selling apps I am sharing with you guys today, to me, eBay is the most complex. You can list just about ANYTHING on eBay. Even things that don’t work (make sure you let the buyer know it doesn’t work!). You can put the item up for auction, have a buy it now price, or do both! There are HUNDREDS of categories to choose from. You can ship domestically or internationally, or choose to have the option of either one for your item. I’m sure you get it now. eBay is more complicated, but you may have a better chance of selling your stuff considering they have a much larger option as far as categories go. I think that eBay is great, but the listing is much more time-consuming. Also, you only get a certain number of free listings every month. After you use all of your free listings, they will start to charge you to list per item. You can check out their website here!

Posh & Mercari let you list as much as you want every month for free! (they charge a final fee based on the price the item sells for). Each app has its own rules and policies that you have to follow. If you make sure you stay within their guidelines, you will be fine. List away and make some extra cash to throw at your debt!
This is one step towards paying off your debt. It will make you feel better and like you are making progress once you can pay some extra money towards those student loans, credits cards, or whatever else it may be that is hanging over your head.
