I used to work with a sweet girl that once told me a story about her family’s travel tree. It was a Christmas tree completely dedicated to ornaments from places they had traveled together. I instantly fell in love with this idea because my husband and I love to travel! At the time, we were just dating, but even then, we still loved to travel together.
Now, my husband and I have been married a little over two years, and we dated for about two years before we got married. During that time, we started collecting ornaments from all the places we traveled or visited together.

I know a lot of people probably do this, but we started this tradition because it was special to us.
We both grew up with family traditions and wanted to start one of our own. I love traditions and believe they are important for families to have them. Traditions can be passed down through your family which to me, means you are keeping those before you alive through the traditions you share. I also love having them to look forward to every year!

Every Christmas we have spent together since starting this tradition has been wonderful. My favorite part of the Christmas season is getting out our tree and putting on the ornaments. Growing up, decorating the tree was already my favorite thing to do, but now, it is even more special to me! Every year, I am reminded of the places we have been and the memories we have shared so far! Sometimes I am even surprised because I may forgotten about a few places we have been (Oops, LOL).
Once the tree is up, I can sit on the couch and admire it for roughly the next two months (I put our tree up early, I’m one of THOSE people). It makes me smile every time I see it! Not only because it is my favorite time of the year, but also because I am reminded of the tradition we have started together. I love being reminded of those special times with my hubby!

I am excited that one day we will be able to make it a family tradition!
One day when we have children, I hope our kids get just as excited as me about putting up the tree and thinking back to all the special trips we have taken together!
Do you have any special family traditions of your own? I would love to hear about them!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season this year!
Until next time,

That sounds really lovely! I now wish I had thought of getting ornaments as souvenirs instead of magnets! I’ll have to start though. Thank you for the inspiration! We stick to the 12 days of Christmas tradition so our tree is only up for 12 days. It’s funny how you described yourself as one of THOSE people.
I described myself as one of THOSE people because those who put their trees up early seem to catch a lot of grief! I think the 12 days of Christmas tradition is wonderful though! You are able to really make the time that your tree is up very special to you and your family. β₯
I have been doing this for years and it is my absolute favorite tree! I even “broke” a globe and attach it to the top! I would keep it up all year round if I could!
The globe thing is an awesome idea!! I love it π
We collect ornaments when we travel, too! My favorite is the one we got in Ireland. I love having more travel ornaments to add each year! What great memories!
I hope that we are able to add some to our tree every year!
We do a travel tree too it is such a fun way to relive all of our adventures.
It is! I love thinking back to my favorite moment from each place we have been.
There’s nothing better than Christmas time. I used to always look forward to putting up my tree when I lived at home – it was the best! Love that you’ve collected sentimental ornaments…it’s always fun to go through the boxes every year & be reminded of special moments as you decorate!

The tree has always been my favorite part! I would leave it up all year if my husband would let me. Lol
I love this. Thanks for sharing your tradition. and your decor is beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Such a fun tradition! My husband and I started gifting an ornament to each other every year and the ornament always represents something that happened in the year. Our tree is now full of special memories!
This is such a neat idea! It’s wonderful to be able to look at your tree and be reminded of wonderful memories!
My wife and I have done similar. My parents collected ornaments for my brother and I each year as we grew up (one or multiple things that signifies the year). Now my wife and I have plenty of ornaments each year to choose from.
This sounds like a wonderful family tradition!
