My husband and I are on a debt payoff journey! We started several months ago, and are making some good progress! We have already paid about $3,000 towards our debt since October of 2019. Below are some great ways to earn extra money to help pay off debt! We have tried many of the ideas below, or know other people who have!
Babysit– This is a great option. There are plenty of moms and dads that would love a break to go out and have a date night!
House sit– House sitting is a super-easy way to make some extra money! People want to make sure their homes and belongings are safe while they are out of town. You can come and go as you normally would, you are just temporarily living in someone else’s home!
Dog sit or walk dogs for people in your neighborhood– It’s time to show those little pups in your neighborhood some much-needed love!
Make crafts or other things and sell them– Are you crafty? Start an Etsy shop online or do craft festivals! During the fall, there are tons of craft festivals to attend!
Take surveys online– There are many different sites to use for taking surveys. My favorite is Survey Junkie. You won’t get rich quick, but it is an easy way to make some extra money to go towards debt, bills, or whatever you need it for!
Inbox Dollars– Inbox Dollars is an app that offers several ways to make money. You can take surveys, read paid email offers, watch ads, and more! It can be time-consuming to make money, but they offer so many options that the time flies by! You can sign up using my link here!
Get a second job– I’ve had two jobs for as long as I can remember! Used to, I would blow the extra money on clothes, make-up, and things I didn’t need. Now, I use the money to go towards our debt. It has helped tremendously in bringing down the total of our debt!
Clean out your kid’s closet– Sell any clothes, shoes, toys, etc. that your kids have grown out of! You can sell them on sites like eEbay, Mercari, Posh, or Facebook yard sale!
Go through your clothes– Do the same thing with your clothes as your kids! Go through your closet and sell what you don’t want or no longer fit into. Also, get rid of any accessories, jewelry, or shoes you no longer want. Sell things online through eBay, Mercari, or Poshmark

Mow lawns– This isn’t one that I personally do because I don’t usually mow the lawn, but it’s perfect your husband to pick up a few side jobs mowing lawns in the neighborhood or for some of the little old ladies at your church!
Sell old cd’s and DVDs– Have movies and cd’s you no longer want? Try selling them on decluttr for some cash!
Sell your old electronics– I know you all have old electronics just lying around the house! Try to sell them for some extra cash. Decluttr also buys old electronics!
Use cashback apps– One of my favorite cash back apps is Ibotta!
Use my referral code jxyaovg when you sign up (for Ibotta)!
Dabbl, Get Upside, Rakuten, Dosh, Swagbucks, Checkout 51, and Shopkick are some other great cashback apps!
Start using Acorns– Acorns is an app that will add up the “spare change” from using your debit or credit card and then invest the money for you. The account will grow over time, and then you can withdraw the money. It’s a really neat app, and you should give it a try!
Sign up for user testing– Websites will pay you for trying out their site! Usertesting is one of the main websites to go through! There are some smaller sites you can go through for user testing, but this is the website that I recommend.
Start a blog (it’s the best!)– There are so many ways to make money from blogging! Ask me about it. I would love to help you get started or refer you to someone who can help!
Sell digital products– Are you an expert in a field? You could create helpful workbooks or courses for people and sell them online!
Start affiliate marketing– Have a large following on social media? You could get paid for advertising products you love! With affiliate marketing, you get a percentage of items that are sold through your affiliate links. Amazon Affiliates program is super popular and easy to use!
Pick-Up freelance work – There are so many apps for picking up freelance work! A few that I have used are UpWork, Freelancer, & Fiverr. You can do anything from graphic design work to resume writing to proofreading! Download one of these apps today and see if there are any services you could offer!
Take pictures of your receipts– There is an app called Receipt Hog that gathers marketing data by collecting pictures of receipts and asking a few basic questions. You will receive coins for your receipts and can eventually cash in those coins for payment through PayPal or Amazon gift cards. It’s super easy and adds up over time!
Get paid to walk– Use the app Sweatcoin and get paid to walk every day! They convert your steps into coins and you can use the coins to buy things on their app. They have different offers every day, and some of the things are really neat!
Sell your photos online– Yes, this is a real thing! There are plenty of people out there looking for stock photos and other photos for their websites. If you love photography, then you need to try selling some of your photos online! Shutterstock is a good website to start with!
Take photos for people– Once again, if you love photography and you’re good at it, you should take photos for people! Pick up some clients on the weekends and do a few photoshoots. You will get to do something you love while also making a few bucks!

Sell presents you don’t want– Have any Christmas or birthday presents you don’t want? You should try selling them online! If they are new with tags, most people will pay close to retail price simply because they don’t have to get out of their house (or their pajamas!).
Have items with tags?– This only works if you have the receipt also, but if you do, then return them! Get your money back for things you bought and realized you didn’t need it.
Sell your old books and textbooks– If you have some old college textbooks lying around, you need to sell them! You know you are never going to pick them back up, and they will just collect dust forever.
Work as a virtual assistant– There are plenty of businesses and bloggers who need someone to help with things in the background. They need someone to run their social media profiles, send out emails, and more. Being a VA also means you can work from home! There are part-time and full-time gigs for this, so start looking!
Sell metal– Metal isn’t always worth a lot, but my husband and I will save up any metal we find, or get from our house (cans, metal from repairs, etc.), and then take a truckload when we have time. It’s a little extra money to go towards debt, and it doesn’t take much effort to do this!
Sell your artwork– Are you artistic? Do you love to paint? Open an Etsy shop or create a Facebook page! You could be making some extra money doing something that you love!
Sell old jewelry– Have any nice jewelry you no longer want? Take it to a local jeweler and see if they will buy it from you. You could also take it to a pawn shop and sell it, but I don’t think you will get near what it is worth!
Work for VIPkid– Do you have a background as a teacher or working with kids? VIPkid is an online program where you can work from home and teach English. You make your own schedule and can work as often or as little as you’d like to!

Be a secret shopper– There are several different companies you can go through to become a secret shopper, but I like the Mobee app! It gives you places to go shopping that are local to you. Once you visit the location and finish filling out the questions on the app you will receive points. You can redeem those points for rewards.
