Visiting Dahlonega, Georgia has been on my Georgia bucket list for a long time! I have always heard that it is a lovely town, with a great history, and a lot to do! I wanted to learn about the Dahlonega Gold Rush and the town where it all began. Finally, after talking about it for a while, my husband and I took advantage of the long Memorial Day weekend to go check it out!
The night we arrived, we started with a visit to the Bourbon Street Grille. We love Cajun food, and they did not disappoint! Wonderful service as well. We would definitely go back and visit next time we are in town. We took a little walk around town enjoying the evening atmosphere, but since it was late, there weren’t many places open.
The next day, we took full advantage of the beautiful weather and took a stroll around downtown, visiting the cute shops, chocolate factory, art gallery, ice cream parlor (we love to eat), and so on! There were wine tasting rooms, toy stores, a theatre, and other unique shops. There are plenty of options for everyone, and it is definitely a family-friendly town. It also seemed like a lovely place to bring pets! There are also places to visit outside of the downtown area; those include wineries, the national forest, places to mine for gold, and other fun things to do! If you wanted to stay in the downtown area, there are some adorable bed and breakfasts to stay at that are in the heart of downtown!

We decided to eat lunch at 19 Degrees North Seafood & Grill. It was a nice option, and we got to sit on the balcony overlooking downtown Dahlonega. It was great food, excellent service, & we would recommend it to anyone!
We also visited the Dahlonega Gold Museum that is located in the old Lumpkin County Courthouse. My husband and I felt like we couldn’t come to Dahlonega and not learn about the Gold Rush! Otherwise, Dahlonega probably wouldn’t even be on the map. The museum was very informative and explained how the Gold Rush began. They also included history and information about the old courthouse, which is the oldest courthouse in the state of Georgia (fun fact!). When we left the museum, there was live entertainment set up right outside for people to gather around and enjoy.
These are just a few of the many things to do in Dahlonega, Georgia! My husband and I had a very fun trip, and we hope to make it back someday. If you are looking for a weekend get-a-way with the family, this is the perfect trip!
