If it’s your first time using a simmer pot, you may have some questions.
Simmer pots are a super easy way to keep your home smelling fresh, but it’s best to feel comfortable when trying something new. Let’s answer some of those questions you may have!
What is a Simmer Pot?
A simmer pot is a great and natural way to make your home smell amazing by using fresh ingredients. It’s a pot of water filled with different ingredients that sits on low heat and simmers throughout the day to fill your home with a nice aroma.
Once the ingredients start to heat up, you will start to smell it best. Let it simmer for as long as you’d like.
Why Should I Use a Simmer Pot?
A simmer pot is an inexpensive way to keep your home smelling wonderful. Using a simmer pot is also better for your home and you!
The ingredients of simmer pots are fresh fruit, herbs, and spices to create natural scents.
Whereas most candles are made with toxic ingredients that are released into your home. Simmer pots allow you to keep your home non-toxic and safe for you, your family, and your pets. It’s the best thing to replace those artificial scents with something more natural.
How Long Can a Simmer Pot Be Used?
A simmer pot can be used for a few days or until the ingredients need to be thrown out. Since they are fresh, the ingredients can usually last 2-3 days.
I typically let my simmer pot go for about 2-3 hours at a time, but you could let it simmer all day if you want! Be sure to throw out (or compost) the ingredients once you are done.
How Do I Dispose of the INgredients?
The best way to dispose of the ingredients is to compost them. They are all compostable. If you don’t have a composter or a compost pile, dispose of them somewhere in your yard that your pets cannot easily get to.
Lastly, if none of these are an option, it’s fine to throw them in the trash.

Notes
Make sure to keep the water level above all the ingredients. If it gets too low, there is a chance the ingredients could begin to burn in the saucepan.
This recipe can also be put into a slow cooker rather than on the stovetop. Put all the ingredients in the slow cooker, turn it on low, and then keep adding water as needed.
You can use your simmer pot for a few days with the ingredients you start with. I use my simmer pots for about three days. After that, the ingredients are no longer good and they need to be discarded.
