If you have ever had a spa day you likely know how wonderful it feels to be pampered, relaxed,
and rejuvenated. You want that feeling to last a long time. So why not recreate that serene
environment and soothing experience by transforming your bathroom into a mini spa for when
you want to unwind? Here are nine ideas to help you achieve nirvana in your bathroom.
1. Remove Clutter
Counterspace often comes at a premium in a bathroom. When you fill that up with personal
hygiene products and toiletries, the space can look and feel messy. Start to declutter by tossing
out and replacing anything that has expired.
Then, place anything you don’t use regularly in a drawer or cabinet. Keep countertops and shelves stocked only with essential items and preferably in nicely designed containers. If you don’t have much cabinet space, purchase attractive bins and organize your personal care items in them.
Store the bins beneath the sink. It is easy to temporarily place a bin on the counter while using the items in it.
2. Freshen the Room with Soft Hues
Your bathroom can be a calming space simply by toning down the color scheme. This can be
achieved with a fresh coat of paint or wallpaper.
Soft and warm neutral colors, such as white, sea glass green, and light sky blue inspired by coastal nature can be very peaceful. Try to avoid bright contrasting colors.

3. Update Your Showerhead
An older basic showerhead might not be soothing your sore muscles or gently washing over
your tired body. An adjustable massaging showerhead is just what you may need to help you
relax after working out.
Alternatively, a sunflower or rain shower head allows water to flow lightly over your body to offer a calming experience similar to a light summer rain on a warm day.
4. Brighten the Space with Reflective Elements
It is no surprise that a mirror can make a room feel larger by reflecting light and adding depth. In addition to a wall mirror, you can expand the space with other shiny surfaces, such as glass walls and shower tiles. Vanity countertops can be made of tinted glass or glossy stone. The bonus of these materials is that they are naturally sanitary and easy to clean.
5. Splurge on Nice Towels
One thing that professional spas take pride in is their offering of luxury plush towels and robes.
A couple of sets of fluffy soft towels and washcloths can make you feel like royalty. Stay with
neutral colors and choose absorbent fabrics such as cotton terry cloth or bamboo. Be sure the
bath towels are large enough to wrap yourself in.
To further soften the room, roll or neatly fold clean towels and put them on display. If inclined, install a heated towel bar for extra indulgence.
6. Bring the Outdoors Inside
If your bathroom has a window with a sill, fill that up with live potted leafy green plants.
Alternatively, suspend hanging baskets of downward-flowing plants. So many plants thrive in
humid environments.
While they soak up the moisture in the air and the rays of the sun, they in turn filter the air of toxins and supply the small room with healing oxygen.
7. Dim the Lights
Create ambiance by placing ceiling and wall light fixtures on dimmers. This is an easy electrical upgrade that allows you to set the mood by reducing the brightness in the room.
Another way to create ambiance with light is by placing candles on the counter and around the tub. These can either be soy-based non-toxic candles or battery-operated ones with flickering flames.
8. Soften the Environment with an Area Rug
It is so lovely to step out of a soaking tub or a shower onto a soft and warm rug rather than a
cold tile floor.
You can easily find small cotton or synthetic area rungs that can be tossed into the washing machine for easy maintenance and to keep the bathroom clean and smelling fresh
between spa days.

9. Introduce Relaxing Scents
Essential oils are all the rage for creating a soothing environment and for healing. You can
simply add a few drops of lavender essential oil to your bath water or you can pick up an
affordable countertop diffuser that will emit natural oil scents into the air.
If you prefer, scented candles can double as ambient light and aromatherapy for your spa space.

These are fantastic ideas! Spas can be pretty pricey, so it’s great that we can save some cash by bringing the spa experience right into our own homes.
