How Do I Use a Label Maker?
Most label makers are going to be very easy to use.
The label maker that I use is a very basic, handheld label maker. It’s perfect for the simple organizing tasks that I use it on.
It comes with label tape that you load it with. When the screen turns on, use the buttons to type out whatever you want the label to say, and then print it. Once the label print, there is a lever to push to cut the label.
Lastly, take the paper off the back of the label to expose the sticky part and then stick the label wherever you want it to go!
It’s a very simple process that you will get the hang of quickly!
What Can I Use a Label Maker For?
The good news is that you can label anything around your home that you want. There are no rules as to what can and can’t be labeled! It’s a great tool to use to get organized.
1. Home Office
The home office is easy to get cluttered and disorganized. Especially for small business owners or people that work from home! There can be paperwork everywhere along with stationery that needs a place to go.
The home office is a great place to start using your new label maker to get all of that under control. It’s perfect for getting all of your stationery supplies and paperwork organized.
I love to use a label maker to name my file folders. It is much cleaner and tidier than pulling out the whiteout year after year to rename your file folders. Just pull out your handy dandy label maker and make a new label to go over the old one. It will keep them looking neat and is much easier (in my opinion).
On the shelves and in the cabinets of your home office, you can label boxes and containers with what is in them. I have all my extra pens, pencils, markers, paper clips, and miscellaneous items labeled. This is very helpful when looking for something because I don’t have to open every box or container to find it. I know exactly what is in each of them!

2. The Pantry
The pantry can be quick to become a mess. The pantry is like a catch-all for food that nobody knows where it goes. After a while, it becomes a disorganized mess, and then you can’t find anything that you are looking for!
The pantry is probably my favorite place to use my label maker. I love to label my canisters with what is in them! The pretty labels make my pantry look very neat and organized.
Another reason I like to label the canisters in my pantry is so that when I run out of whatever I store in a certain canister, I will remember what goes in it. Labeling your canisters can also help others in your home know what is in something without having to ask.
Once you get started labeling everything in your pantry, you will feel like a professional organizer! It’s much easier than you think.
These airtight canisters are my favorite! You can get your pantry organized quickly and efficiently with the right tools- canisters, canned food organizer, some baskets, and a label maker.

3. The Attic
One thing I dread every year is getting into the attic to get down holiday decorations. The attic is stuffy, disorganized, and cramped! It used to be a nightmare trying to figure out which boxes had what in them and which ones we needed to get down for decorating the house. It took too much time trying to figure it out!
The best way to solve this problem? Label the boxes!
By labeling the boxes with what is inside of them, it will be much easier to know which boxes you need to get down and which ones need to stay.
Make sure when you put the boxes back in the attic to store them with the labels facing the correct way. We store so many different things in the attic that this is the best way for us to stay organized and sane during the holiday season!
4. The Garage
Maybe you don’t store your holiday decorations in the attic, maybe they go into the garage. The concept remains the same. Label all the boxes you have stored (even if they aren’t decorations) so that you know what is in all the boxes you have.
Be sure to label anything you keep in the garage. Labeling shelves will ensure that when things like tools, jumper cables, or sports equipment get used, that they will get put back where they belong. Everything has a place, and by labeling things, you can let that be known to everyone in the family.
A label maker is essential to organizing spaces like this so that things can be put back where they belong which leads to less clutter.
5. The Craft Room
If you are a crafter, then you know how disorganized your craft room or area can get! There are so many tools and supplies you need for different crafting projects.
To get started with organizing your craft room, I would start with getting some bins to store your tools and supplies in. These bins are great because they don’t take up much space and have latching lids.
Next, label each box with the type of tools or supplies that go in them. I have mine labeled with scissors, markers, pens, stickers, glitter, glue, and so on. Some things can go in the same bins, but I would make their own labels for each item.
Keeping your crafting room and supplies organized will allow you to have more fun when indulging in the crafts you love! You won’t be looking for the supplies you need and stressed out about your tools and supplies being all over the place.
It will also help your children or partner find supplies if they need them AND put them back where they go because it’s easy to figure out.

What Are the Best Label Makers?
There are many different types of label makers. I personally like the handheld type of label makers because of their ease of use. They are easy to carry around the house and easier to store as well.
1. Dymo Letratag Label Maker
This is the label maker that I use on a regular basis. It’s easy to use and works very well! It has several font sizes, and font styles, and prints in black text on white tape, magnetic strips, or metallic tape.
With thermal printers (like this one) you don’t need ink. The only things you will need to replace eventually are the batteries (AA) and the tape cartridges.
In my opinion, for this label maker to fit in your hand, it has many options that are perfect for getting your home organized. It gets the job done!
If you are looking for something simple and easy to use, this is the tool for you!
2. Dymo Letratag Bluetooth Label Maker
This label maker is very convenient. It connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth and can be used on the go! It does require an app to be used.
It would be a great option for small business owners, college students, or anyone who prefers to work from their phone rather than typing on the label maker.
You can use different color tape to make labels that look good and match your space. It even comes with clear tape to make clear labels if you only want the letters to show. Have fun with your next organizing project with this label maker!
It also uses a thermal print head, so the only things you will need to change are the batteries (AA) and the tape cartridges.
3. Brother P-Touch Label Maker
This label maker is perfect for anyone who wants to be creative and make different types of labels. It has many font sizes, font styles, print styles, and tons of symbols to use along with words.
It’s great for labeling things throughout your home, and could even be used for crafting with different colored tape and cute symbols!
I love that it’s bigger than the handheld label maker that I use. The keyboard is more spread out and could be easier to use.
It also uses a thermal print head, so the only things you will need to change are the batteries (AA) and the tape cartridges.

Are There Other Options?
If you want to be more old school and do things by hand, you could always use printed labels from your computer or chalkboard labels that you write on (these chalkboard labels are so cute! And don’t forget a chalk pen).
Regular printers can also print labels with label stickers like these.
You could also try regular multi-use label stickers that you write on with a pen.
However you choose to label things around your home, I think that it is an essential part of getting organized.
